As the name implies, restorative dentistry is any process that restores the health and function of the teeth, jaw, and gums. Dr. Tim J. Brooks may recommend a restorative dentistry procedure to treat any of the following conditions:
- Missing teeth
- Difficulty biting or chewing food
- Misaligned teeth or uneven bite
- Failure of another dental restoration
- Cracked or decayed tooth
Typical Restorative Dentistry Procedures
Before recommending a specific procedure, Dr. Brooks performs a comprehensive evaluation. This includes a detailed review of your smile and oral health, as well as a discussion about your own treatment preferences. Here are some of the more common types of dental procedures Dr. Brooks may recommend for restorative purposes:
For a missing tooth, Dr. Brooks attaches metal brackets to the back of each of the surrounding teeth to hold the dental bridge in place. He then affixes the new replacement tooth to the dental bridge.
A crown is usually placed over a posterior (back) tooth to protect it against further decay by keeping bacteria from reaching it. It also helps to preserve and strengthen a cracked tooth, or a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy
This dental procedure not only looks like a natural tooth, it also functions like one. That is because the implant restoration (crown, bridge, denture, etc.) is placed over the implant which serves the function of the original tooth root. The restoration matches the color and shape of your remaining teeth as closely as possible.
When Dr. Brooks diagnoses a cavity, he carefully removes the decayed part of the tooth and replaces it with one of a number filling materials. This preserves the tooth, while protecting it from additional decay. Tooth-colored filling material allows you to conceal your treatment from others because it perfectly matches the shade of surrounding teeth.
